Drake Bets $770K On Canada And Walks Away With $1 Million Despite The Infamous “Drake Curse”

Drake’s OVO Could Be Headed For A Massive Payday As Authentic Brands Group Reportedly Eyes 50 Percent Stake

Drake did not just watch Canada make World Cup history; he turned the moment into another seven-figure gambling flex.

According to a screenshot he posted, the Toronto rapper placed a $770,000 Stake wager on Canada to advance against South Africa in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The bet carried a total payout of $1,001,000, meaning Drake walked away with roughly $231,000 in profit after Canada pulled off a 1-0 win.

Canada delivered in dramatic fashion. Stephen Eustaquio scored in the 92nd minute to send Canada past South Africa and into the World Cup last 16 for the first time in the country’s history.

For Drake, however, this was just the latest chapter in a very public gambling résumé. His partnership with Stake became official in 2022, when the crypto betting platform announced a livestreaming collaboration with the rapper. In that announcement, Drake said, “It was inevitable. Drake and Stake have come together,” per SBC Americas.

Since then, Drake has turned massive bets into part of his public persona. One of his biggest wins came during the 2024 Super Bowl, when he placed $1.15 million on the Kansas City Chiefs to beat the San Francisco 49ers. After the Chiefs won, Drake’s payout totaled more than $2.3 million.

He also hit big in January 2023, when he wagered $1.1 million on the Chiefs to beat the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship. Fortune reported that the win gave him a payout of more than $2 million. That same report noted that Drake previously took home $1.4 million after backing the Los Angeles Rams in their Super Bowl matchup against the Bengals.

Still, the “Drake Curse” conversation has never fully disappeared. Fortune also noted that Drake once lost $1 million on Argentina during the 2022 World Cup, even though Argentina won, because his wager was placed in a market that did not account for extra time.

The wins have also come with scrutiny. Earlier this year, a Bloomberg Businessweek investigation found Drake won big on Stake games tied to Easygo, Stake’s parent company, at a rate four times higher than the average player. Stake pushed back, calling the findings “categorically incorrect.” Stake cofounder Ed Craven has also denied special treatment for influencers, saying, “Despite certain widespread notions of odds being rigged in some people’s favors or money not being real, we have no direct control of the odds of any of our games.”

Stake and Drake have also been pulled into a legal controversy. A Virginia class-action lawsuit accused Drake, Adin Ross, and Stake of being tied to alleged illegal gambling and stream-boosting claims. Stake dismissed the allegations as “nonsense,” and The Guardian noted that no one had been criminally charged in connection with the lawsuit.

Drake has even admitted the downside of gambling publicly. In June 2025, he shared that he had lost more than $8 million in a month.

Now, with Canada moving forward and Drake cashing another major slip, the moment is bigger than one soccer match. It is another reminder that when Drake bets, the internet watches, whether he is breaking the curse, feeding it, or turning national pride into a million-dollar headline.
