Dwyane Wade put a ring on Gabrielle Union’s finger at her birthday party this week, but it was not the kind of ring fans were hoping for.
On Tuesday, the Miami Heat received their 2013 NBA championship rings before their season opener in Miami. That same day, Union celebrated her 41st birthday with friends at the Hyde Lounge inside AmericanAirlines Arena. According to Page Six, Wade stopped by the party before catching the team’s flight to Philadelphia and “walked in with a gift-wrapped box, opened it with her and put it on her finger.”
The ring turned out to be a Heat championship ring of her own, not an engagement ring. Union showed off her new jewelry in a photo from the night.
The gesture had fans split. Some felt the box should have held an engagement ring, while others pointed out that both Wade and Union have been through divorces and may simply be in no rush to walk down the aisle. Union has said in past interviews that the two are taking their time, since they both moved too fast in their first marriages.
The couple has been together for about four years.
