In the first confirmation that federal authorities and state officials are investigating Baltimore mayor Catherine Pugh’s activities, federal law enforcement agents raided City Hall, Pugh’s home and three other associated addresses.
FBI spokesman, Dave Fitz, confirmed agents from the Baltimore FBI office and the Washington IRS office executed search warrants on the locations in regards to questionable financial dealings Pugh is accused of within the University of Maryland Medical System.
Maryland Governor Larry Hogan said in a statement, “On April 1, I directed the state prosecutor to investigate the disturbing allegations surrounding Mayor Catherine Pugh’s questionable financial dealings with the University of Maryland Medical System. Today, agents for the FBI and the IRS executed search warrants at the mayor’s homes and offices.”
He continued, “Now more than ever, Baltimore City needs strong and responsible leadership. Mayor Pugh has lost the public trust. She is clearly not fit to lead. For the good of the city, Mayor Pugh must resign.”
The search warrants also included the Maryland Center for Adult Training, where Pugh has three staffers listed as board members, as well as her former home she still owns in Ashburton and the downtown office of her attorney.
