A Federal judge has confirmed the convictions for federal hate crimes against the three men convicted in Ahmaud Arbery’s murder.
On Thursday, a judge told Gregory McMichael, Travis McMichael, and William “Roddy” Bryan that there was “more than adequate evidence” to convict them of killing Ahmaud in 2020 despite their efforts to have the jury’s guilty decision overturned.
According to the judge, the defendants’ social media posts that negatively compared Black people to white people, in general, led to their convictions on federal charges for the killing and kidnapping of Arbery.
The judge also mentioned that Gregory McMichael had derogatory remarks against a Black tenant and stated, “all these blacks are nothing but trouble; I wish they would all die.”
The federal case against all three men is still pending.
In their state cases, the McMichaels received life sentences without parole, and Bryan received a life sentence with parole eligibility.
