Federal prosecutors are asking a court to keep Timothy, an Army reservist who worked as a security contractor at New Jersey’s Naval Weapons Station Earle, in jail while his Capitol riot case moves forward.
According to the New York Post and court filings, prosecutors say coworkers described him as a Nazi sympathizer. Investigators reportedly found photos on his phone of him wearing a Hitler style mustache, and he was said to have once been reprimanded at work over the look. Prosecutors also say coworkers reported hearing him make anti Semitic and anti minority remarks at work.
The filing acknowledges that political views alone are not enough to hold someone in custody. Prosecutors argue his stated desire for a civil war is relevant to whether he is a danger to the community, and that the court can weigh his ideology in that context.
Prosecutors also accuse him of trying to destroy evidence. The Post reported that he deleted his Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts, which he had used to share photos and videos from the riot, and that he removed YouTube videos. The filing says he told investigators he planned to destroy other evidence so it would not be found if he were arrested.
He faces several charges in connection with January 6, though none are described as violent. He is presumed innocent, and the claims above are allegations from prosecutors and the people they cite.
