Floyd Mayweather Jr. is back in the political spotlight after joining Donald Trump on a trip to Arizona on Wednesday, October 14, as Republicans ramp up their campaigning ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
According to a White House travel pool report filed by Agence France-Presse correspondent Aurelia End, the undefeated boxing champion was among the passengers listed aboard Air Force One as Trump departed Las Vegas for Bullhead City, Arizona. Journalists Phil Lewis and Mini Racker also confirmed the news on X.

The motorcade left Trump International Hotel at approximately 12:04 p.m. Pacific time before heading to Harry Reid International Airport. Mayweather’s name appeared on a passenger list distributed by the White House, alongside several administration officials and Republican lawmakers.
The reason for Trump’s Arizona visit is political. According to the Associated Press, Trump is holding a rally in Bullhead City to support Republican Rep. Andy Biggs, who is challenging Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs in Arizona’s gubernatorial race.
However, the White House has not publicly explained why Mayweather was invited or whether he will speak at the rally. His inclusion on the presidential aircraft’s passenger list confirms his participation in the trip, but it does not establish an official campaign role.
Mayweather’s appearance comes as Trump works to increase Republican voter turnout before the November 3 elections. The Associated Press reports that Arizona is one of the more competitive states on his current campaign tour, although Bullhead City sits in a strongly Republican region. Biggs, a former leader of the House Freedom Caucus, has been a longtime Trump ally.
The Arizona stop is only part of Wednesday’s itinerary. According to Trump’s published schedule, another rally is planned in Kalispell, Montana, where Trump is campaigning for Republican congressional candidate Aaron Flint, who is facing Democrat Sam Forstag for an open House seat.
Mayweather’s decision to travel with Trump is particularly notable given his previous public support for him.
During a February 2025 appearance on Fox Business’ Making Money with Charles Payne, the boxing legend praised Trump’s leadership and business experience.
“Trump is a great president,” Mayweather said, according to Fox Business. “He’s the best president in my eyes, a great businessman. And that’s what it’s about.”
During the interview, Mayweather also discussed his extensive real estate investments, explaining that his portfolio had grown substantially since he stepped away from professional boxing.
Their association stretches back years. In November 2016, shortly after Trump won his first election, Mayweather visited him at Trump Tower in New York. According to CBS News, Donald Trump Jr. shared a photograph documenting the meeting.
Mayweather also attended Trump’s first inauguration in January 2017.
However, their relationship has not always been described as a close friendship. During a 2018 interview with TMZ Sports, Mayweather pushed back when a reporter referred to Trump as his friend, saying, “Friends is a strong word.”
That history adds another layer to Wednesday’s appearance. Although Mayweather has openly praised Trump, traveling on Air Force One during a campaign swing is a more visible form of association than offering supportive comments during a television interview.
Mayweather is also not the only boxing superstar to recently accompany Trump on a political trip.
According to official White House photographs, former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson traveled with Trump on October 9 for a campaign appearance in Syracuse, New York.
The two appearances, occurring less than a week apart, highlight Trump’s continued association with some of boxing’s most recognizable figures as Republicans attempt to generate enthusiasm before Election Day.
For Mayweather, whose professional boxing career produced a 50-win, zero-loss record, the appearance also places his political views back before an audience that knows him primarily for his accomplishments in the ring and his business ventures.
Whether the boxer will address supporters, formally endorse Biggs, or participate in additional campaign events remains unclear. For now, the confirmed development is that Floyd Mayweather has joined Trump’s travel party during an important stretch of the Republican midterm campaign.
