Police say they have made arrests in the string of burglaries that targeted the homes of high profile celebrities and athletes in the Los Angeles area.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, three young men, Jshawne, 19, Tyress, 19, and Damaji, 18, were arrested along with Damaji’s mother, Ashle, 34. Police allege the group was behind the burglaries and say they found a list of future targets.
Lillian Carranza, Commanding Officer of the LAPD Commercial Crimes Division, said the suspects studied the social media accounts and tour schedules of their targets. “The burglars believed no one would be home, and the homes would contain sought after valuables,” she said.
Police say the three young men were pulled over on September 27 in South Los Angeles after allegedly burglarizing the Woodland Hills home of Los Angeles Rams receiver Robert Woods. After getting a search warrant, officers say they recovered more than $50,000 in cash, designer handbags, watches and jewelry, plus a stolen vehicle, at one of the suspects’ homes. Police say they also found a list of possible future targets that included Viola Davis, LeBron James and Matt Damon.
Authorities say the group used a method they call flocking, in which members drive through an area in luxury cars and clothing. The burglaries have been compared to those of the Bling Ring, the Los Angeles group that burglarized the homes of celebrities including Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Orlando Bloom in 2008 and 2009.
All four remained in custody and had not yet entered pleas. They are accused only, and the allegations have not been proven in court.
