On Wednesday, as part of the When We All Vote initiative to encourage voter registration and participation, the not-for-profit organization has released its final message to the public.
In the brand new PSA by the Michelle Obama-led organization, young Americans call for “respect,” in an effort to pay tribute to the life and legacy of the late Aretha Franklin, all while calling on all eligible generations to go out and vote for the sake of our children.
“When We All Vote gives these voices a platform to call on their peers,” Maggie Burrows, who directed the PSA in collaboration with the non-partisan organization said. “Inspired by Aretha Franklin’s adaptation, this video makes R-E-S-P-E-C-T into an anthem for young people – young voters – all across America.”
With voter registration deadlines approaching in the next few days, the organization hopes to boost voter participation, as it also comes on the heels of its own week of action.
”In the 2014 midterms, only 23% of eligible 18-25-year-olds cast a ballot,” CEO of When We All Vote, Kyle Lierman said. “But in 2018, young people all across the country are speaking up, demanding respect and registering to vote.”
