California Governor Gavin Newsom is sounding the alarm over what he says could be Donald Trump’s plan to extend his presidency beyond two terms.
In a recent Instagram post, Newsom directly addressed Americans with an urgent message: “Wake up, America. Wake up.” He accused Trump of being a “lawless” leader who has already begun breaking political norms in his current bid to return to the White House.

Newsom claims his warning isn’t based on speculation. He says he personally received a Trump 2028 campaign ad in the mail from one of the former president’s major supporters — despite the fact that under the Constitution, a president is limited to two terms.
Calling Trump “the most corrupt president in history,” Newsom accused him of rejecting free enterprise in favor of crony capitalism, and of causing economic and political damage to the country. “The rules do not apply to him,” Newsom said, urging voters to recognize the risks before November’s election.
While the idea of a third term for any president would face enormous legal and constitutional hurdles, Newsom’s comments are part of a broader Democratic effort to cast Trump as a threat to American democracy.
