Gloria Velez Fires Back at Cam’ron and Mase, Says Women Could Open Their Vaults on Men Too

After It Is What It Is joked that video vixens went back to "general population," the former video vixen asked what would happen if women started dissecting men's lives

Gloria Velez is firing back at Cam’ron and Mase after a conversation on their show It Is What It Is about where the video vixens of back in the day ended up.

During the segment, the question came up of what happened to most of the women from those videos. The answer on the show was that they “just go back to general population.” When the question came again, so did the punchline, “Back in general population,” with the table agreeing that was “a good way to put it.”

Velez did not laugh along. She did not let it slide. She posted a video asking what would happen if women started talking about men the way men talk about them.

Video:

“Imagine this, if women in this industry started podcasts and live stream where all we did was dissect men, not their music, not their businesses, not their talent, their lives,” she said.

Then she spelled out what those shows would sound like: weekly episodes about who was broke before fame, who was pretending to have money, who was cheating, who was using drugs, who mistreated women and who allegedly put hands on them. “Just imagine if women made millions laughing and gossiping and humiliating men with information they trusted us enough to let us see,” she said. “Would everybody call it entertainment?”

For Gloria Velez, the issue is the double standard. When male podcasters and streamers spend hours on women’s bodies, relationships, exes and pasts, she said, it gets packaged as content. She took particular issue with men revisiting what women “alleged did 20 years ago.”

She also made it about money. Women promoted the music, starred in the videos and helped sell the clothes, the cars, the clubs and the whole lifestyle, she said. Now those same women are fuel for thumbnails, clips, livestreams and viral conversations. “Our presence helped generate the attention,” she said. “And then disrespecting us generates another check, right? That’s the part nobody wants to talk about.”

That part hits differently given who she is addressing. Cam’ron and Mase turned It Is What It Is into one of the most successful independent shows in the space, landing a reported eight figure deal with Underdog Fantasy in 2023.

The line that will have men from that era checking their phones came next. “A lot of women from my generation know way more about these men than we ever said publicly,” Gloria Velez said. “We saw things, we heard things, we know things.”

She said those women stayed quiet not because there was nothing to tell, but because they understood that destroying somebody’s life or career was not necessary. Meanwhile, she said, some men have no problem dragging a woman’s life back up 20 or 30 years later for clicks.

She went straight at the question from the show on X too. “Meanwhile, decades later… the video vixens are minding their business, living full lives, raising families, building businesses and evolving, yet somehow we’re STILL the conversation,” she wrote. “Maybe the real question isn’t, ‘What happened to the video vixens?’ Maybe it’s… why are y’all still so obsessed with us?”

She followed that with another question: why do people have such a hard time letting women from that era grow beyond the image they were first known for?

Velez also made clear that nothing anyone digs up can catch her off guard, because she already put it in her memoir, When Silence Screamed: The Girl Who Knew Too Much. “You can’t weaponize my past against me when I already had the courage to put it on paper,” she wrote. “I told my own story before anybody could twist it into theirs.”

“I’m not hiding from my past. I healed from it, learned from it, wrote about it and turned it into purpose,” she added. “You can’t ‘expose’ a woman who already exposed the truth herself.” In the same post, she said her video had passed 277,000 views.

“If we open our vaults and discuss men with the same freedom, detail, and disrespect that some men discuss women, would they call it entertainment?” she asked. “Or would everybody suddenly discover the word privacy, respect and going too far?”

“That’s the conversation I want to have,” she said.
