A GTA 6 job offering nearly $900 to play one of the most anticipated video games of the year is officially accepting applications, but there’s a catch that could disappoint gamers hoping to turn their favorite hobby into a payday.
Virgin Media Ireland is offering one person €800, approximately $900, to spend eight hours playing Rockstar Games’ upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI. The winner will also receive a free copy of the game, meaning they won’t have to spend their own money to participate.
And while getting paid to explore Vice City sounds like the ultimate gaming opportunity, the company has some surprisingly specific rules about what the winner can share afterward.
For starters, the lucky gamer cannot include gameplay footage, screenshots, game audio, or Rockstar Games artwork in their sponsored review. Imagine getting paid hundreds of dollars to play GTA 6, only to discover you cannot show your followers a single second of the actual game.
That’s exactly how this promotion works.
According to Virgin Media Ireland’s official competition page, the selected player will earn €100 per hour for eight hours of gaming. Those hours don’t have to be completed in one sitting, either. The winner can spread the experience across a week, giving them time to explore the game’s world without being forced into an eight-hour marathon.
The GTA 6 job is being promoted as an opportunity for an everyday gaming enthusiast rather than a professional streamer or established content creator.
Applicants don’t need previous gaming industry experience, professional qualifications, or an existing Virgin Media subscription. They simply need to meet the contest requirements and explain why they deserve the opportunity.
However, there is one major geographic restriction.
The competition is open exclusively to adults living in the Republic of Ireland. That means GTA fans in the United States, including those living in Miami, the real-world inspiration for Vice City, cannot enter unless they meet the residency requirement.
For eligible applicants, the process starts with completing a form on Virgin Media Ireland’s website and submitting a short explanation of their interest in the game.
Applications close November 15, 2026, just four days before GTA 6 is scheduled to launch.
Virgin Media says the winner will be contacted within seven days after the application deadline.
The assignment doesn’t end when the controller is put down.
The selected gamer must create an honest review of GTA 6 and submit it to Virgin Media Ireland for approval before publishing. Once approved, the review must appear on a public Instagram or TikTok account between November 20 and November 26.
The post must tag Virgin Media Ireland and prominently include the advertising disclosure #Ad.
The company also prohibits using gameplay clips, screenshots, game audio, logos, artwork, or other material belonging to Rockstar Games or its parent company, Take-Two Interactive.
That creates an unusual challenge for whoever lands the GTA 6 job. Instead of letting the game speak for itself through recorded footage, the winner will have to describe the experience using their own words and original presentation.
They can discuss their impressions, explain what stood out, and share their overall verdict, but showing the actual game is off the table under the promotional rules.
Virgin Media Ireland has made clear that it wants genuine enthusiasm rather than professional credentials.
In its promotional materials, the company describes the opportunity as something designed for fans who have spent years anticipating the game’s release and planning their first adventures in Vice City.
A Virgin Media spokesperson also explained the thinking behind the promotion.
“‘GTA 6’ is the biggest game launch in years, maybe ever,” the spokesperson said. “It’s the kind of launch that friends plan their whole week around, and we wanted to be part of that excitement.”
The promotion arrives as Rockstar prepares to release GTA 6 on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S consoles.
The upcoming game takes players back to Vice City, the franchise’s fictional version of Miami, while expanding the setting to the state of Leonida, a fictional location inspired by Florida.
Its central characters, Jason and Lucia, become involved in a criminal conspiracy after a robbery goes wrong. Their story unfolds across a world filled with the beaches, highways, neighborhoods, and nightlife that have helped define the franchise’s identity.
For longtime fans, the release marks the arrival of a new mainline installment more than a decade after Grand Theft Auto V debuted in 2013.
Rockstar previously pushed GTA 6’s release to November 2026, explaining that additional development time would help the studio deliver the quality players expect.
Now, with the launch approaching, companies outside the gaming industry are finding ways to participate in the excitement.
Virgin Media’s contest is also a marketing opportunity for its broadband business. By offering a paid gaming experience, the company can associate its services with a major entertainment release while gaining exposure through the winner’s social media review.
The arrangement also resembles a small sponsored content assignment more than a traditional employment opportunity. Only one person will be selected, and the payment covers a specific eight-hour gaming experience and the required review.
