Police in St. Charles, Missouri say they have found dozens of videos on the laptop of a former Lindenwood University student who is facing felony charges for allegedly exposing sexual partners to HIV, according to the Daily Mail and CBS News.
Michael, 22, a former wrestler at the school, was charged in October 2013 with exposing sexual partners to HIV. A month later, four more felony charges were filed. Investigators say that during their probe they found 32 videos on his laptop that allegedly show him with a number of people he met through social media. Authorities believe many of the videos were recorded in his dorm room, which they say they recognized by the furniture.
Police say they believe the people in the videos did not know he had the virus or that they were being recorded. One of the people shown has been identified, and detectives are still working to learn who the others are. St. Charles County prosecutor Tim Lohmar has urged anyone who may have been involved to come forward, and the St. Charles Detective Bureau is asking possible partners to call 636-949-3330. Lindenwood officials told CBS they only learned about the videos days earlier and plan to help law enforcement.
The case began after one man filed a complaint saying he contracted HIV from Michael. We did not see a plea or public response from him in the reports. He has been charged but not convicted, and the charges remain allegations.
The takeaway for everyone is simple. Know your status, get tested regularly and protect yourself.
