Former NBA star Dwight Howard has withdrawn a recently filed restraining order against his wife, Amy Luciani, signaling a potential shift toward a more amicable resolution in their ongoing divorce proceedings.
According to Howard’s attorney, Gillian B. Fierer, the decision to drop the protective order represents an initial step toward de-escalating tensions as both parties work to finalize their separation. Fierer explained that such legal moves are not uncommon in divorce cases, particularly when a restraining order has already prompted formal proceedings. She noted that the action can help facilitate the filing and progression of a divorce.
Howard is also requesting privacy as the situation unfolds, asking the public to allow space for both parties during the process.
The restraining order, originally filed last week and approved by a judge on April 7, had placed strict limitations on Luciani, whose real name is Amber Howard. She was prohibited from approaching Howard’s residence in Georgia, contacting his family, or going near his children’s school. In the filing, Howard alleged that Amber came to his home on April 5 and threatened him. He further indicated that she had previously threatened him with “a knife, gun or other deadly weapon.”
Amber has denied those allegations. In a statement to Us Weekly, she said, “Dwight is pulling any string of retaliation to cover up another one of his many wrongdoings. The protective order is completely false. Because I did not lie to the police when Dwight asked me to the day his daughter was removed by CPS, Dwight is reaching low to retaliate in an attempt to silence me.”
The couple’s divorce, which marks the second filing between them, follows a series of public disputes and legal challenges.
