Hyundai Faces Recall Of More Than 200,000 Vehicles Following Explosive Seatbelt Component Issue

Hyundai

Hyundai has recalled more than 200,000 vehicles due to an explosive seatbelt component.

On Thursday, the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA) announced that an exploding seatbelt pretensioner is the cause behind the motor vehicle company recalling 239,000 vehicles.

The cars that were affected in the recall include Hyundai Accents manufactured between 2019 and 2022, along with Elantras manufactured between 2021 and 2023. Elantra HEVs that were manufactured between 2021 and 2022 were also part of the recall., Fox Business reports.

In the statement, NHTSA explained that the issue is with an explosive component of the seatbelts. “An exploding seat belt pretensioner can project metal fragments into vehicle, strike vehicle occupants, and result in injury,” said the administration. All owners of impacted cars will receive notice letters by July 14, the news outlet reports.
