Issa Rae’s plans to celebrate a decade of “Insecure” across the country have hit an unexpected detour just days before the anniversary tour was scheduled to begin.

Rae, Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis, Natasha Rothwell and former showrunner Prentice Penny announced Tuesday that the “Insecure” anniversary tour has been canceled because new work commitments created scheduling conflicts for the group. The 13-city run had been expected to bring the creative team behind the HBO comedy face-to-face with fans throughout September and early October.
The cast broke the news together in a video, leaning into the familiar chemistry and humor that helped define the series before Penny finally addressed why the road trip could not happen.
“We are so sorry we had to cancel the tour. We are also bummed. I’m serious,” Penny said. “But everybody started working, which is good.”
Rae made it clear that trying to continue the Insecure anniversary tour without everyone available would not have delivered the reunion they originally wanted fans to experience.
“Unfortunately, our schedules got messed up,” she said. “But we only wanted to do this if we could all be there and give you the best experience possible.”
The timing makes that explanation especially understandable. According to ABC’s official page for “The Rookie: North,” Ellis is leading the upcoming “The Rookie” spinoff as Alex Holland and also serves as a producer on the series. Janet Montgomery, Karen Fukuhara, Chris Sullivan, Froy Gutierrez, Mya Lowe, and Malik Watson are among the ensemble alongside Ellis.
Rae and Penny also have another major television project developing together. HBO ordered a pilot for a new comedy written and executive produced by Rae about male friendship and professional boxing in Las Vegas. Penny is attached as showrunner, executive producer and director of the pilot, marking another collaboration between the pair after Insecure.
Before the cancellation, the Insecure anniversary tour was positioned as one of the biggest pieces of the show’s yearlong 10th anniversary celebration. Pollstar reported when the tour was announced that the Live Nation-promoted run was scheduled to open at The Met Philadelphia on September 10 before visiting Washington, Detroit, Boston, Brooklyn, Montclair, Las Vegas, Oakland, Chicago, Atlanta, Irving and Houston. The tour was supposed to finish in Inglewood on October 8.
That final stop is not going away.
The October 8 event in Inglewood is scheduled for 8 p.m. and was designed around candid conversations, stories from the making of the series and reflections on its impact. The venue originally announced Rae and Penny as hosts with appearances from Orji, Ellis and Rothwell on select tour dates.
As of September 1, Ticketmaster still lists the October 8 Inglewood event at YouTube Theater, giving fans at least one opportunity to see the Insecure team celebrate the milestone together in the Los Angeles area that became central to the show’s identity.
The anniversary celebration has also stretched beyond live events. Rae and Penny launched BLOCC PARTY: An Insecure Podcast through HOORAE and Audioboom Studios in 2026. The weekly rewatch series revisits episodes while bringing in members of the cast and crew, unpacking production stories and responding to fan questions about the series.
Insecure itself concluded after five seasons. In its announcement for the final chapter, Warner Bros. Discovery’s HBO pressroom confirmed that the fifth season premiered in October 2021 and credited Rae and Larry Wilmore as the series’ creators, with Penny among its executive producers. The network also identified Orji, Ellis and Rothwell among the regular cast members who helped build the show’s central circle.
For fans who purchased tickets to the canceled dates, Ticketmaster’s official canceled event policy states that customers generally do not need to take action. Ticketmaster says refunds are processed to the original payment method once funds are received from the event organizer and should appear within 14 to 21 days, although individual circumstances can vary.
So while the Insecure anniversary tour will not become the nationwide reunion fans expected, the celebration is not completely over. Rae, Penny and the cast may be too booked to travel together this fall, but one last October night in Inglewood is still on the calendar.
