Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett acknowledged defeat in the Democratic Senate primary on Wednesday, conceding to fellow Democrat James Talarico and urging party unity ahead of the general election.
Crockett announced she had personally called Talarico to congratulate him after results showed he secured enough votes to win the nomination outright.
“This morning I called James and congratulated him on becoming the Senate nominee,” Crockett wrote in a statement shared on Twitter. “Texas is primed to turn blue, and we must remain united because this is bigger than any one person.”

The closely watched primary drew national attention as Democrats searched for a viable strategy to compete statewide in Texas, a state Republicans have dominated for decades. With most votes counted Wednesday morning, Talarico led with about 53 percent of the vote compared to Crockett’s 46 percent, allowing him to avoid a runoff election that would have taken place in May.
Crockett emphasized that the broader goal now is defeating Republicans in November and strengthening Democratic turnout across the ballot.
“This is about the future of all 30 million Texans and getting America back on track,” she said. “With the primary behind us, Democrats must rally around our nominees and win.”
She added that she plans to remain active in the party’s efforts moving forward.
“I’m committed to doing my part and will continue working to elect democrats up and down the ballot.”
Talarico celebrated the victory shortly after multiple outlets projected him as the winner.
“We’re about to take back Texas,” he said in a brief statement.
He will now face the Republican nominee in November as Democrats attempt to break the GOP’s long hold on statewide offices.
