What started as an awards show quickly turned into something that felt more like a family reunion for the culture. On Thursday night, Hollywood Unlocked CEO and founder Jason Lee hosted the sixth annual Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, bringing together some of the biggest names in entertainment, media, politics, and business for an evening dedicated to honoring those making a lasting impact on culture.
The room was already packed with stars before the show even began, but the energy reached another level once Emmy, Grammy, and NAACP Image Award-winning actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish took the stage as host. At one point, Haddish even turned the ceremony into a full-blown walk-off contest with Eva Marcille, setting the tone for a night that blended celebration, humor, and genuine appreciation.
Comedian Gary “G-Thang” Johnson kicked off the evening, but what followed felt less scripted and more organic. Throughout the night, the audience erupted into impromptu performances that transformed the ballroom into a live showcase of Black excellence and talent.
Da Brat jumped into a freestyle. Gospel icon Yolanda Adams joined in. Then came one of the night’s most unexpected moments when Tyler Perry surprised the crowd by singing. Chante Moore, Kirk Franklin, Yo-Yo, and Inayah also added to the spontaneous entertainment, creating a series of moments that no one in attendance could have planned.

Even the introductions had personality.
Kathy Hilton opened with jokes about not being able to help with parking, Wi-Fi, or validation despite the event being held at her family’s Beverly Hilton, drawing laughs from the crowd before the evening’s honors officially got underway.
The night also delivered several emotional moments.
While reflecting on his journey, Jason Lee shared how surreal it was to honor Tyler Perry, revealing that he once purchased Perry’s Madea films at Walmart and watched his work religiously before eventually creating the very platform now recognizing his contributions.
Meanwhile, singer Kehlani shared one of the evening’s most heartfelt stories.

Recalling a difficult chapter from her childhood, Kehlani revealed that when her mother went to jail, she only had two albums: one from Keyshia Cole and one from Kirk Franklin. The reflection led to a deeply personal moment as she thanked Franklin directly while standing in the same room with him years later.
Beyond the speeches and surprise performances, the night featured powerful sets from GRAMMY-nominated singer, songwriter, actress, and producer Chlöe Bailey, gospel powerhouse Kierra Sheard, two-time GRAMMY-nominated rapper Joyner Lucas, Jekalyn Carr, and singer-songwriter Sheléa.

As expected, the guest list was stacked.
Among those in attendance were Jonathan Majors, Blac Chyna, Da Brat and Jesseca Harris-Dupart, DDG, Blxst, Blueface, Eric Bellinger, Yolanda Adams, Evan Ross, Claudia Jordan, Ben Crump, Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, Lakeyah, Top Dawg, Marques Houston, Kayla Nicole, Angel McCoughtry, Bobby Lytes, Phaedra Parks, JOZZY, DJ Vlad, Laura Govan, Nikki Mudarris, Chante Moore, Shamea Morton, Zeus Network CEO Lemuel Plummer, BMI executive Catherine Brewton, Laurieann Gibson, and many more.

But the evening wasn’t solely about celebrity appearances.
The event also highlighted the ongoing work of the Hollywood Cares Foundation, the nonprofit launched by Jason Lee to support underserved youth in Black and Brown communities through programs focused on youth leadership, civic engagement, mentorship, and personal development.
Guests showed up in a major way, contributing donations that will help further the foundation’s mission of connecting resources, opportunities, and support systems to young people and communities that need them most.
As Hollywood Unlocked continues expanding beyond media into philanthropy and community impact, the annual Impact Awards have become more than a red carpet event. They’re increasingly becoming a gathering place where entertainment, influence, and service intersect under one roof.
And if this year’s ceremony proved anything, it’s that when culture’s biggest names come together in one room, you never know who might end up grabbing the microphone.
The sixth annual Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards was executive produced by Jason Lee and Rob Smith and will air on Zeus Network.
