Tony Buzbee Says Lawyer Linked to Roc Nation Is a “Pawn” Being Used by Jay-Z’s Company

A lawyer closely connected to Jay Z’s philanthropic work is taking legal action against high profile attorney Tony Buzbee, accusing him of launching a calculated smear campaign that damaged her reputation and career.

Marcy Croft, who has worked extensively with Team Roc, the charitable arm of Roc Nation, has filed a $25 million defamation lawsuit in federal court in Texas.

According to court documents filed on December 17, Croft alleges that Buzbee and his Houston based law firm falsely accused her of serious criminal behavior through social media and legal filings.

The lawsuit claims Buzbee publicly accused her of felonious misconduct, including “illegal client solicitation, bribery, intimidation, and obstruction of justice.”

Croft previously filed a similar lawsuit against Buzbee in Mississippi earlier this year.

Croft’s legal team argues that the accusations were baseless and deliberately harmful. Her attorneys claim the statements were made with “actual malice” and were designed to destroy her credibility within the legal community. The complaint states that Croft became the target of “deliberate falsehoods” beginning in December 2024.

The filing details an interaction between Croft and former Buzbee Law Firm client Jose Maldonado, who allegedly reached out to her for guidance after accusing the firm of mishandling client funds.

Croft says she advised Maldonado that he may have been the victim of a “fraudulent scheme” but did not believe enough evidence existed to move forward with a civil case. Croft also claims she heard what sounded like a recording device during her phone call with Maldonado.

The lawsuit further alleges that Buzbee’s firm accused Croft of organizing an unlawful operation in which she supposedly hired agents to approach former Buzbee clients and offer up to $10,000 to file frivolous lawsuits against him. Croft denies the allegations and is seeking both compensatory and punitive damages, stating she suffered emotional distress and lasting reputational harm.

Croft claims these events unfolded while Buzbee was actively suing her and Roc Nation, and that his version of the alleged agent scheme was included directly in that lawsuit.

The legal tension escalated shortly after Buzbee, representing an anonymous accuser, filed a separate lawsuit accusing Jay Z and Diddy of sexual assault dating back to 2000, when the woman was underage. That lawsuit was later dropped earlier this year.

Jay Z responded publicly at the time, expressing outrage over the accusation and Buzbee’s legal tactics.

“My lawyer received a blackmail attempt, called a demand letter, from a ‘lawyer’ named Tony Buzbee,” Jay Z said in a statement released last December. “What he had calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle.” He added, “No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion. So no, I will not give you ONE RED PENNY!!”

Buzbee responded by pushing back on Croft’s claims. “She filed a case against me months ago, but only after I sued her in Texas for her illegal activities,” he said.

Addressing the Mississippi lawsuit, Buzbee added, “Her frivolous case filed against me was dismissed. My case against her is still pending. She tried to get it dismissed but failed. A Houston judge already looked at my claims against her and acknowledged that her frivolous case is her attempt to spin the press.”

He continued his criticism by saying, “She is a classic bottom feeder. I would describe her as everything that’s wrong with the legal profession. I intend to put her out of business.”

Tony Buzbee has a history of aiding his clients in distorting and/or concealing actual FACTS. He will defend his clients even though he knows evidence contradicts his misrepresentations. he should have been disbarred a long time ago. However, his ties to corrupt politicians, JUDGES, other lawyers & lawmakers allows him to stay in the game.
