Jay-Z is reportedly set to headline the Super Bowl halftime show in 2027, making the Jay-Z Super Bowl moment fans have speculated about for years look closer than ever. Puck, the subscription industry news outlet, reported Tuesday that multiple sources say the 56 year old rapper will take the stage at Super Bowl LXI on February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Neither the NFL nor Jay-Z has confirmed the booking.
The twist is that Jay-Z would essentially be booking himself. His company, Roc Nation, has overseen the league’s halftime entertainment since 2019, and in that time he has brought in The Weeknd, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar and Bad Bunny, along with the 2022 West Coast show led by Dr. Dre. According to Puck, Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus were also in the running for 2027 before Hov landed on the name he knows best.
The timing lines up with the year he is having. Jay-Z has spent 2026 playing stadium shows celebrating the 30th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint. Two of those shows are at SoFi Stadium this weekend, the same venue that will host the Super Bowl, and several outlets have pointed to those dates as a possible spot for an official announcement.
This Jay-Z Super Bowl news also closes a loop that started almost a decade ago. In 2017, The Source reported that Jay-Z turned down the halftime show for Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis. That same year, he dedicated a song to Colin Kaepernick during a New York concert, as Kaepernick remained unsigned after kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice. The NFL responded at the time that no performer had been chosen and that it would not speculate on particular artists.
Two years later, Jay-Z partnered with the league through Roc Nation’s deal to oversee halftime entertainment and social justice initiatives, a move that drew pushback from people who saw it as a step back from his support for Kaepernick. If the report holds, the man who once said no to the Super Bowl would now be standing at the center of it.
He would not be the first Carter to own that stage. Beyoncé headlined the halftime show at Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans in 2013 and returned as a special guest in 2016, so a Jay-Z Super Bowl show at SoFi has fans already wondering whether she will make it three. Roc Nation’s roster also includes Rihanna, J. Cole, Megan Thee Stallion, A$AP Rocky and Alicia Keys, though no guests have been reported.
For now, the NFL has not made an announcement, and Roc Nation has not commented on the report.
