Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream is taking swift action after finding out a batch of its Passion Fruit Dreamsicle bars could trigger allergic reactions. The company announced the voluntary recall on Monday, November 17. The FDA followed up with a public notice the next day.
The issue stems from a crunch topping that accidentally made its way into the production process. That topping contains wheat and soy, two common allergens that were not listed on the label. While no one has reported getting sick, the risk is serious enough that Jeni’s is urging customers to stop eating the affected bars immediately.
The recalled ice cream bars are sold in yellow packaging and can be identified by batch code 25-210. These bars were distributed to grocery stores all across the United States.
Jeni’s said this was a packaging mistake and emphasized that no other products or flavors are involved in the recall. “Out of an abundance of caution,” they said in a statement to USA Today, the bars are being pulled to protect consumers.
If you have the recalled bars, return them to the store where you bought them for a full refund. Customers with questions can call Jeni’s customer service at 614-488-3224 or email contact@jenis.com during regular business hours.
