From Diapers To Marriage: Inside Jordyn Woods And Jaden Smith's Lifelong Friendship

When Jordyn Woods married Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns on August 15, 2026, at a private oceanfront estate in Malibu, most of the wedding chatter should have centered on the couple. Instead, a chunk of the internet fixated on someone else entirely: Jaden Smith.

Photos and videos from the celebration showed Smith woven into nearly every part of the day, posing “with all the girls” in bridal party pictures, present at the bridal shower, and crouched down helping Towns, who wears a size 20 shoe, get ready before the ceremony. It turned out Smith hadn’t just shown up; he’d designed the groom’s shoes. As Christian Louboutin’s Men’s Creative Director, a role he took on in 2025, Smith custom-made a pair of the brand’s signature red-soled dress shoes sized specifically for Towns, then shared behind-the-scenes photos captioned, “My Best Friend Got Married, And I Made Karl Size 20 Red Bottoms.

To some onlookers, a 28-year-old man threaded that closely through another woman’s wedding, bridal shower included, looked unusual enough to question. Woods didn’t let the criticism sit. She responded on TikTok with a photo carousel, opening with the pointed question she’d seen floating around, “Why is Jaden with all of the girls?,” before answering it herself, image by image, with the receipts of a friendship that predates either of them having a public life:

“So grateful to have the epitome of a day ONE. From diapers to marriage. I can’t wait for his wedding one day, but until then!!! He’s never missed a birthday, showing up at my dads funeral and making us all laugh, to now getting married. I’m so lucky I’ve never had to know a life without our friendship.”

It’s a defense that leans on history rather than explanation, and the history, it turns out, is real, and unusually deep even by celebrity-friendship standards.

Jordyn and Jaden’s connection isn’t a product of the internet age or a chance meeting at a party. It goes back to their parents’ careers. Jordyn’s late father, John Woods, worked as a television sound engineer, and one of his jobs put him on the set of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” the show that made Will Smith a star. That professional overlap turned into a friendship between the families, and because Jordyn and Jaden were born the same year, the two kids were essentially raised in the same orbit from the start.

Jaden has told this origin story himself. In a 2015 Instagram post marking their bond, he wrote: “Jordyn Is One Of The First People I Ever Met, We’ve Been Friends Since A Few Days After I Was Born And Always Will Be.” Will Smith has backed up the timeline too; he once posted a throwback photo of the two of them as small children in matching superhero costumes, joking that Jaden had “ALWAYS worn superhero suits on your dates,” and shared another photo of himself cradling a baby Jordyn when she turned 21.

That’s the piece of the story that makes Woods’s TikTok caption — “from diapers to marriage” — literal rather than just a cute turn of phrase. The two genuinely grew up together, inside a friendship that started before either of them could talk.

The friendship that quietly built her world. The Smith connection did more than give Jordyn a childhood best friend; it eventually reshaped her adult life. In the summer of 2012, it was Jaden who introduced Jordyn to Kylie Jenner at his own house. Jenner has said she immediately saved Jordyn’s number with a purple heart next to her name. That introduction grew into one of the most-watched friendships in celebrity culture through the 2010s, with Woods and Jenner appearing together at events like Kim Kardashian’s 2014 wedding in Italy, and it’s the relationship that first put Woods in front of a much larger public than the one she’d grown up in with the Smiths.

In other words, Jaden isn’t a friend Jordyn Woods collected once she became famous; he’s the reason a lot of that fame reached her at all. A friendship that showed up, on record

What seems to have mattered most to Woods in her response wasn’t the introductions or the industry connections, though. It was consistency. Her father, John Woods, died in 2017, and by her account Jaden was there for the funeral, not just attending, but, as she put it, “making us all laugh” in a moment that needed exactly that. Two years later, when Woods became the center of a much more public storm over her involvement with Tristan Thompson and Khloé Kardashian, and later sat down for a much-discussed “Red Table Talk” conversation with Jada Pinkett Smith, the Smith family’s ties to her were already old news to anyone who’d followed her closely, they’d known her, and stood by her, long before any of that.

That track record is why Smith’s presence at the 2026 wedding tracked as unremarkable to Woods, even if it read as a surprise to strangers online. He was reportedly among the first people she called when Towns proposed on Christmas Eve 2025, caught on camera looking genuinely stunned. Towns himself has described a similarly slow-built history with Woods; the two were close friends for two and a half years before they started dating, then dated for roughly six more before marrying. Longevity, in this circle, is apparently the whole point.

Seen against that backdrop, Jordyn Woods’s TikTok wasn’t really a defense of a friendship that needed defending. It was a timeline: diapers, birthdays, a funeral, a wedding, offered as its own argument. Some friendships get explained. This one just got dated.
