Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones has been found not guilty of misdemeanor assault. A visiting judge from the Hamilton County Municipal Court made the ruling after Jones waived his right to a jury trial, according to the Associated Press.
The case stemmed from an incident outside a Cincinnati nightclub. Prosecutors said a woman named Shannon accused Jones of punching her in the head and knocking her to the ground. According to the prosecution’s account, Jones had insulted her and other women in her group, and she then poured beer on him before the alleged punch. The charge carried up to six months in jail.
Jones pleaded not guilty and was released on his own recognizance after his arrest. His attorney maintained that Jones was the victim in the incident. The judge’s reasoning was not detailed in the early reports.
The NFL could still review the matter under its personal conduct policy. We will keep you posted if anything changes.
