The Knicks Watch Parties in the Boroughs Are the Move for Game 3, Far From the Trump Lockdown

The biggest Knicks moment in a generation is colliding with a presidential security footprint, and the fans who packed Plaza 33 for Games 1 and 2 are the ones paying for it.

The Knicks watch parties in the boroughs are where you want to be for Game 3. With Trump heading to Madison Square Garden on Monday night and a heavy security footprint going up around the arena, fans who want to soak up the NBA Finals without standing in the middle of a Midtown lockdown have a simple answer. Head to Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, or Staten Island, where the energy is going strong and far from all of it.

Here is what the area around the Garden is bracing for. Trump’s appearance means hundreds of Secret Service agents, thousands of NYPD officers, a hard perimeter, a strict no bag policy, and checkpoints with fans told to arrive hours early. Add the gridlock of a motorcade rolling through Midtown and the memory of Game 2, when the outdoor crowd of roughly 6,500 ended with 17 arrests along Seventh and Eighth Avenues, and you can see why plenty of fans would rather watch from somewhere with a little breathing room.

That is exactly what the boroughs offer. The Knicks watch parties spread across the team’s official Playoff Bar Network run through all five boroughs and beyond, far enough from the Garden that the security plan is a non factor. In Brooklyn, spots like BK Backyard Bar are built for game day with big screens and open air space. Queens has Break Bar and Pig Beach BBQ. The Bronx has The Last Stop and Rambling House. Staten Island has Jimmy Max. There are even options across the river in Jersey City and Hoboken. Wherever you are, there is a room full of orange and blue within reach that is nowhere near the lockdown.

For the full rundown of official spots, the Knicks point fans to their official block party page, which has the latest on every location. But if the priority is catching the game far from the Trump circus, the borough bars are the cleanest call you can make for Monday night.
The pull is real because this is the biggest Knicks moment in a generation. The team holds a commanding lead over the San Antonio Spurs and is hosting its first Finals home game at the Garden since 1999, chasing a first championship since 1973. Trump accepted an invitation from Knicks owner James Dolan and is expected courtside, which the league believes makes it the first time a sitting commander in chief has attended an NBA Finals game in person. His visit is the reason Midtown is bracing for a security operation the neighborhood rarely sees, and the reason the Knicks watch parties out in the neighborhoods are looking like the smarter ticket.

Not everyone is rolling out the welcome mat. Stephen A. Smith publicly asked Trump to stay home, saying it has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with protecting the Knicks and the city’s energy. Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he will be at the game as well, just seated far away from Trump. Inside the locker room the mood is looser, with backup center Mitchell Robinson seeming to welcome the spotlight rather than shrink from it.

So if you are choosing your Game 3 spot, the Knicks watch parties in the boroughs give you the whole vibe, the screens, the crowd, the noise, with none of the Midtown security maze. Pick your neighborhood, find your bar, and let the motorcade have Seventh Avenue.
