Boosie BadAzz is back in the headlines, and once again it has nothing to do with the music. The rapper born Torrence Hatch went to X to announce that trans women would not be welcome at his upcoming topless pool party, leading with an anti-trans slur and a list of physical traits he claimed his team would be screening for at the door. He wrote that they would be checking “Adam’s apples,” “strong facial features” and “large hands,” then added that he had tried to be respectful because, in his telling, he had said “Ms.”
He paired the post with screenshots of a private exchange in which someone asked to buy a ticket and asked, plainly, whether trans guests were allowed. The person said they liked his performance and wanted to come out and support. Boosie’s answer, posted for millions to see, was that they were not welcome. Turning a stranger’s DM into content for a laugh is its own kind of statement, and the internet read it exactly that way.
None of this is new for him. In 2020 he went on a widely condemned tirade aimed at Dwyane Wade over the NBA star’s support for his daughter Zaya, who had come out as a transgender girl. He doubled down in an interview afterward, insisting he was simply saying how he felt. The years since have not softened the pattern. He has built an entire party brand around hypersexual spectacle, toe sucking sections and “cucumber challenge” theatrics, then positioned himself as the gatekeeper of who counts as a real woman in the pool.
That contradiction has not gone unnoticed inside his own house. His daughter, Poison Ivi, has publicly called him a hypocrite, pointing out that the same parties he hypes have featured women being intimate with women while he objected to her relationship and her sexuality. Her argument was simple. He wants credit for being honest about how he feels, but he is selective about which truths he is willing to live with. The pool party post lands in that same lane. A man whose entire public persona runs on shock and spectacle deciding that someone else’s existence is the line that cannot be crossed.
The reaction online has been swift, with much of it aimed less at the policy and more at the fixation. People keep asking the obvious question. Why does a rapper who insists he is unbothered spend this much energy on who gets into a pool. For a culture that has watched Boosie cycle through this exact controversy for the better part of a decade, the answer feels less like a stance and more like a tell.
