When it comes to navigating a high-profile breakup in the public eye, Tristan Thompson has more experience than most. And now he is passing that experience along whether anyone asked him to or not.During a recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast posted on July 8, Tristan Thompson was asked to weigh in on the ongoing public fallout from Klay Thompson’s very messy split with Megan Thee Stallion. Tristan and Klay Thompson are not related despite sharing a last name.
Tristan’s advice was blunt, simple, and very much rooted in personal experience. “Don’t say anything,” he told Shannon Sharpe. “The worst thing you can do is feed into the beast. If you speak up, you give it more legs. You allow them to take another day to talk about it.” He continued: “You had a relationship with someone, an artist. It didn’t work out. If she wants to say something, let her do whatever she wants to do. As a man, keep your mouth quiet.” Tristan also told Klay to lean into his other interests and identity rather than engage in a public back-and-forth with a former partner who has a massive platform.
For anyone who missed it, Megan Thee Stallion and Klay Thompson went public with their relationship in July 2025, making their red carpet debut at Megan’s Pete and Thomas Foundation Gala in New York City. The relationship appeared to be going strong, with Klay reportedly splurging on a tropical vacation and a Bentley for Megan’s 31st birthday in February 2026. Then in April, things came to a very public end. Megan took to her Instagram Stories to put Klay on blast, writing: “Cheating, had me around your whole family playing house… got cold feet. Holding you down through all your HORRIBLE mood swings and treatment towards me during your basketball season, now you don’t know if you can be monogamous?” Megan later confirmed the breakup through her representative, saying: “Trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there’s no real path forward.” Klay has largely remained silent since then, which, based on Tristan’s advice, appears to be exactly the right move.
The irony of Tristan Thompson giving relationship advice was not lost on anyone. Social media immediately sounded off, with the comment section on Club Shay Shay’s YouTube post lighting up with reactions ranging from amused to genuinely surprised he had the audacity. One commenter wrote: “Tristan should be the last person to give relationship advice.” Another said: “You can tell he has had great media training.” Others gave him credit, noting that whatever his personal track record, the advice itself was actually sound. Tristan is no stranger to public relationship drama. He was involved in multiple high-profile cheating scandals during his relationship with Khloe Kardashian, which played out on national television across multiple seasons of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. He and Khloe continue to co-parent their two children, True and Tatum, and Tristan recently admitted on Khloe’s own podcast that he was “young and wanting his cake and eating it too” during their time together.
Klay Thompson has not publicly responded to Megan’s cheating allegations. The two have gone their separate ways and as of today Klay remains unsigned as a free agent following his time with the Dallas Mavericks. Megan, meanwhile, has continued her momentum with “Spend Dat” riding at number one on urban radio charts. Whether Klay takes Tristan’s advice or eventually speaks up remains to be seen. But for now, the quiet approach seems to be holding. The internet, however, has not been nearly as quiet.
