Latto Says Stan Culture Plays A Role In Female Rap Feuds

Latto is reflecting on her past rap beefs and wishes she had not been swayed by social media.

The Atlanta star recently sat down with XXL, where she spoke on how fanbases can sometimes spark beef between female rappers. Based on her own experiences, Latto urged other women coming up in hip-hop to steer clear of the drama at all costs.

“I think it really don’t be a problem until we let fans, Stans, whatever you want to call them, like the outsiders once they get in the mix. I think that’s what stirs the pot. Because it’s like, we will all be fans of each other and commenting and following each other, whatever, but then once they get to comparing, they will turn us against each other, which is very weak-minded of us as female rappers,” Latto explained.

If you recall, she famously feuded with Nicki Minaj on Twitter back in October 2022. The issue seemingly stemmed from Minaj speaking out about Latta’s “Big Energy” being nominated in the Grammy’s rap category while Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl” was considered in the pop category. The ladies argued online and resorted to sharing their private messages on the timeline. Since then, it doesn’t appear that they’ve reconciled. However, Latto says she “will take that accountability” for her role in the issues.

“Once people are infiltrating your mind and got you thinking this, and now you feel this type of way without even addressing the person, now you addressing fans. I think we be falling for these traps that they put on female rappers,” Latto added.

Minaj hasn’t responded to the chatter, but it wouldn’t come as a surprise if she sent a few shots Latto’s way.
