Laura Loomer responded to Stephen A. Smith calling her comments about Black women in politics offensive by asking whether Florida State Representative Angie Nixon was going to, in her words, pop a cap in her [expletive] and yank her weave to put whitey in her place. She tagged Smith directly, asked him to translate something for her, and closed the post with “You feelz me?”

The exchange started Wednesday night. Smith, who hosts “Straight Shooter” on SiriusXM alongside his ESPN work, posted that Loomer’s comments about Black women in politics were highly offensive and said he was calling it out. In the full video response, he pushed further, asking Loomer how she would feel if someone called her out of her name, saying he would never speak about any woman that way and certainly not about his Black sisters. He then pivoted to what Nixon actually campaigns on, listing healthcare access, working wages and grocery prices, and asked Loomer which one of those was her real problem.Loomer, a far-right activist and close ally of Donald Trump who has claimed credit for getting White House staff fired, was not interested in retreating. Her reply defended the original insult word for word. She said Smith was wrong to say she should not call Nixon what she is, and repeated the phrase she has been using for a week: a ghetto, black, communist [expletive]. She added that she would say it to Nixon’s face and asked what Nixon was going to do about it.
Here is the part the screenshots are burying. To justify herself, Loomer posted a highlighted clip of one of Nixon’s own tweets and framed it as proof that Nixon is the one being crude. Nixon’s post was directed at people in her mentions who had already called her an ape. She was clapping back at them. Loomer cropped it into evidence against her.
The whole thing traces back to a vote in the Florida Legislature. Nixon voted no on a resolution honoring conservative activist Charlie Kirk and said the bill was a slap in the face to Black women. Loomer went after her for it on August 28, and not just her. That post also named U.S. Representatives Ilhan Omar and Ayanna Pressley, former Representative Cori Bush, and Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, describing all five as ghetto, entitled, and race-obsessed and saying they were unfit for power. In follow-up posts, she called Nixon’s floor speech “Ebonics” and said someone needed to tug her leash.The backlash crossed party lines, which almost never happens with Loomer. Former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene said she denounced the comments 1000 percent and called them racist. Maryland Governor Wes Moore told Loomer directly that she attacks and insults Black women because she believes racism is good for her clicks and her business model. Representative Rashida Tlaib, who Loomer has attacked before, said anti-Black racism keeps going unchecked.
Loomer answered the criticism by posting a list. Is she ghetto? Yes. Is she Black? Yes. Is she a communist? Yes. She said she spoke the truth and asked why she cannot call Nixon what she is.Nixon has not matched the tone once. She did not cry. She did not ask for an apology. She corrected the record and kept fundraising. Her first response was that Loomer should refer to her as Representative Angie Nixon, and that after November 3 she can call her Senator. She reminded Loomer of the 2024 clip where Loomer ate a dog food topper on camera, then threw in a nod to Queen Latifah’s “U.N.I.T.Y.” She also redirected her followers to her opponent, telling them not to let name-calling distract from Ashley Moody and pointing them to her donation page.
Nixon told Newsweek the attacks are nothing new to her. She said she has been called a dog, which is what Loomer called her, along with a monkey, an ape, and a gorilla, and that she has been threatened. She put the blame on the tone set by Trump and Moody, saying the rhetoric is designed to divide people, and said she plans to keep pushing back on it.
The stakes are what make this more than a social media fight. Nixon won an upset in Florida’s Democratic Senate primary and is now the nominee heading into November. She is a Black woman running statewide in Florida against Ashley Moody, the sitting senator. Loomer has real proximity to Trump and has publicly claimed she has gotten senior officials removed, so her posts do not sit in the same category as a random account. When she picks a target, people in power tend to hear about it.Smith wading in changes the shape of it too. He is not a political commentator by trade, and he catches heat regularly from the same audience that is now cheering him on. He also has a national platform across sports and talk radio that reaches well past the political internet. Loomer answering him by name pulled the fight into a much bigger room than the one it started in.
