Lil Nas X’s recent arrest and public breakdown left fans stunned, but behind the headlines, his father is offering an emotional look into the pain and pressure his son has been carrying.

“I went to visit him in jail, and as soon as I walked through that door, I couldn’t do anything but cry,” Robert Stafford shared with the Sunday Times. “To see my baby boy on the other side of that glass. We shed tears with each other for a minute.”

Stafford told his son that breakdowns happen to everyone. The difference is that he had to endure it in front of the entire world.

“What you’re going through is normal. We all have breakdowns every now and then, but the difference is, yours played out in the public eye.”

What struck his father most was how concerned the rapper was for others.

“When I went to visit, he asked me to say, ‘tell everybody I’m sorry they saw me like that,’” Stafford said. “Even in that moment, he was apologizing to people for something he was going through.”

The 26-year-old, who rose from viral fame to Grammy wins, now finds himself at a crossroads. “To be a breadwinner for a lot of people, the inability to change his mother’s situation and the pressure he puts on himself… That can weigh heavily on your heart,” Stafford explained.

Through it all, the message is clear: healing is coming, and family is standing strong.
