The story follows a cheerful young girl searching for where she belongs and a spirited flute named Sasha B. Flootin’ who is struggling to find her tune. Together, the two characters help each other discover confidence, friendship, and self-expression.
“Everyone always asks me how I started playing flute … well I didn’t choose flute, Floot chose me!” Lizzo wrote in her Instagram announcement.
The book also includes an interactive feature for readers. Each copy will contain a QR code that unlocks an original song Lizzo created specifically for the project, allowing children to experience the story through both reading and music.
Lizzo explained that the book reflects her own childhood struggles and the way music helped her find confidence and identity.
“When I was young, I struggled to fit in, but playing the flute helped me find my voice,” Lizzo said in a press release. “I want this book to teach every young person out there that your passion can give you purpose, belonging, and lead you on a journey to fulfill your wildest dreams.”
Kendra Levin, VP and editorial director of Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, said the story captures the empowering message Lizzo has shared throughout her career.
“Lil Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin’” will be published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers on September 8 and is currently available for preorder.
