The Wayans brothers’ press tour is in full effect as fans prepare for the return of the “Scary Movie” franchise. During a quick chat with Baller Alert, Shawn and Marlon Wayans were asked about their legacy as ’90s heartthrobs thanks to their hit comedy series, “The Wayans Bros.”
Shawn wasted no time downplaying the title, insisting he was never focused on being a pin-up star, just a guy trying to make people laugh.
“I feel like that’s up to the audience to decide. We’re just two guys trying to do what we do and do it well,” Shawn explained.
However, Marlon immediately leaned into his status as a ’90s heartthrob, even taking aim at some of his non-Black counterparts from the era.
“I feel like we carry it better than some of the white heartthrobs from my era. I’m just being honest. Some of them look like leather wallets. Me and, you know, we held on to a lot of our good, you know, our good genes,” Marlon interjected.
The brothers, along with their famous family, dominated much of the 1990s. Shawn and Marlon became household names during the five-season run of “The Wayans Bros.,” which aired from 1995 to 1999 on The WB. The sitcom followed fictional brothers Shawn and Marlon Williams as they navigated work, relationships, and everyday life in New York City, helping establish the pair as breakout stars of the family dynasty.
The show’s blend of physical comedy, relatable storylines, and trendsetting fashion made it a fan favorite, while the brothers’ on-screen chemistry helped cement their place in pop culture. For many viewers, “The Wayans Bros.” remains one of the defining Black sitcoms of the decade.
