Meek Mill woke up and found his most iconic phrase sitting on a Nike sneaker release calendar without a phone call attached to it.
The Philadelphia rapper publicly called out Nike and LeBron James after the sportswear giant released the new “Dreams and Nightmares” LeBron 23 on Tuesday. Meek took to X questioning why nobody from the brand allegedly contacted him before using the same title as his legendary 2012 debut album and intro track.
“So @nike just gone take my whole brand and mash it up with LeBron,” Meek wrote online before adding, “why wouldn’t anybody holler at me about this?” The post instantly sparked debate across social media, especially among fans who connect the phrase directly to Meek’s career-defining record.
So @nike just gone take my whole brand and mash it up with LeBron … what is this … why wouldn’t anybody holler at me about this? I thought the sneaks was fake? Wassup with this? pic.twitter.com/Awi101qpca

Nike’s product description says the sneaker celebrates LeBron James finally winning his first NBA championship with the Miami Heat in 2012 after years of pressure, criticism, and playoff heartbreak. The timing raised eyebrows because Meek also released his “Dreams and Nightmares” album that same year, and the title track has since become one of the biggest cultural anthems in hip-hop and sports arenas alike. Nike officially released the shoe through SNKRS on May 26 for $235.
The metallic silver and gold LeBron 23 leans heavily into championship imagery, with Nike describing it as a tribute to LeBron’s “About Damn Time” moment after securing his first ring. Sneaker outlets including Nice Kicks and Sole Retriever also noted the connection between the sneaker’s name and Meek’s famous song in their coverage leading up to the drop.
As of now, neither Nike nor LeBron James has publicly responded to Meek Mill’s complaints. Still, the situation already has fans asking whether this was simply inspiration or a branding conversation that should’ve happened behind closed doors first.
