Erika Kirk is calling out comedians, podcasters and commentators who joked about her husband’s assassination, and her replies quickly turned into a fight over Charlie Kirk’s own record.

In a statement posted Sunday, Erika Kirk wrote that watching “leftist podcasters, comedians, and commentators laugh about political assassination as though it’s entertainment and the destruction of a human life is a punchline, is beyond disgusting.”
Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed on September 10, 2025, while speaking at Utah Valley University. Erika, who now runs the organization, wrote that his death is “something our two children and I will live with every day for the rest of our lives.”
She called a culture that laughs at assassination “one of profound moral decay” that threatens the principles holding democracy together. “You do not have to agree with someone’s politics to recognize the value of their life,” she wrote. “This should not be so hard.”
Her post came less than a day after Dave Chappelle brought up Charlie Kirk during a sold out show at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night as part of his Karmageddon tour. “It’s scary being a public speaker,” Chappelle told the crowd. “Ever since that guy Charlie Kirk got murdered, and I shouldn’t say this publicly, but I feel better.” The arena laughed and applauded.
The clip spread fast. Tim Pool wrote that Chappelle “crossed a line he can’t come back from,” and Meghan McCain asked what was wrong with him.
Chappelle wasn’t the only one Erika Kirk had in mind. Jennifer Welch and Angie Sullivan, hosts of the progressive podcast I’ve Had It, apologized Saturday after a clip showed them laughing for an extended stretch over a joke about digging Charlie Kirk up and killing him again. Advertisers have already started cutting ties with the show.

Erika Kirk closed her statement by saying political violence “must never be something this country tolerates, excuses, or celebrates.” Plenty of people agreed. Plenty of others came for her in the replies.
The response getting passed around the most came from @greendragonhq, who posted an old Charlie Kirk tweet saying pastors were upset that “George Floyd overdosed” but didn’t care that a white woman was killed by a repeat offender. The account accused Kirk of spreading “medically disproven propaganda” about Floyd. George Floyd died in 2020 after Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for more than nine minutes. The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide, and Chauvin was convicted of murder.
Another user, @Morgan_moore95, simply asked whether Charlie Kirk believed in free speech, pointing back to how he built his brand debating college students and defending provocative speech on campus.
One reply agreed that Chappelle and Welch went too far but still told Erika she had no room to talk. Others went straight at Charlie Kirk himself.
Erika Kirk has faced months of attacks since taking over Turning Point USA, from comedians mocking her to Candace Owens pushing conspiracy theories about her husband’s killing. Earlier this year she said she wakes up every morning to a new headline lying about her.
