New Music Friday is closing out July with a mix of attitude, experimentation, and late-night reflection. Cardi B has something to say, Trippie Redd switches the energy up, and Wale slows things down with Elmiene.
Cardi B is back outside with “AH HA,” her first solo release since her 2025 album, “Am I The Drama?” Produced by DJ SwanQo, who also handled Cardi’s 2021 hit “Up,” the record puts her right back in familiar territory: money talk, jokes, slick insults, and zero interest in playing nice with anybody watching from the sidelines. She also takes a shot at Donald Trump while running through critics and men who have failed to impress her. After spending 2026 touring behind her sophomore album, Cardi did not return quietly. “AH HA” sounds like she missed having a fresh beat to talk over.
Trippie Redd also pulls up with “SWAGGER,” bringing a more unpredictable sound to this week’s lineup. The production does plenty of heavy lifting, bouncing through switches and textures while Trippie bends his vocals around the beat instead of settling into one pocket. The single arrives as anticipation continues around his long-teased NDA era, making every new release another clue for fans trying to figure out where he is headed next. Whether “SWAGGER” answers that question is another conversation, but subtle was clearly not the assignment.
Wale takes a different route on “OVERTHINK,” featuring British soul singer Elmiene. The pairing makes sense for a rapper who has always been comfortable letting R&B carry some of the emotional weight around his bars. Wale spent much of “Everything Is a Lot” unpacking relationships, insecurity, and his own role in complicated situations, while Elmiene has continued building his reputation around rich vocals and vulnerable songwriting, most recently with his 2026 album, sounds for someone. Together, “OVERTHINK” keeps that introspective energy moving, giving the weekend a record for the people whose brain refuses to clock out.
From Cardi B talking her talk to Trippie Redd getting experimental and Wale getting in his head, this week’s New Music Friday has a lane for whatever mood hits first.
