Two Oakland University basketball players were arrested in Culver City, California, on Thursday morning on suspicion of rape, according to CBSSports.com, which cited a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department source. Guard Duke Mondy, 22, and forward Dante Williams, 20, were reportedly each held on $100,000 bond after a woman reported an incident at the team’s hotel. The team was in California for a game against UCLA and was scheduled to face Cal in Berkeley.

Later reports changed the picture. CBSSports.com reported that no charges were filed and that both players were released. An Oakland spokesperson said, “Local California authorities have informed us that they will not proceed with formal criminal charges.” Head coach Greg Kampe also said the players were never charged and that earlier reports saying otherwise were false.

The university placed both players on interim suspension pending an internal review. Kampe said the two broke curfew and met a woman in a hotel room, and he apologized on behalf of the school.

Neither player had publicly commented at the time of this post.
