Oceania Cruises is drawing a line in the sand, or rather, the sea, by officially announcing a transition to an adults-only model.
The luxury line, known for its globally inspired itineraries and gourmet dining, will now only accept new bookings for travelers aged 18 and older. While the cruise world is often associated with family water slides and character breakfasts, Oceania is doubling down on a different vibe.
The decision comes as a direct response to what their loyal passengers have been asking for.
According to Jason Montague, Oceania’s Chief Luxury Officer, the ships’ peaceful environment is the number one reason guests keep coming back. By removing the younger demographic, Montague says the brand is “enhancing the very essence” of its journey, focusing purely on discovery and refined hospitality.
If you already have a family trip on the books, don’t panic, any reservations made before January 7, 2026, that include minors will still be honored.
Interestingly, many frequent cruisers assumed Oceania was already an adults-only line. With an average passenger age in the mid-60s, the “kids‘ club” was often nothing more than a lone ping-pong table on the deck. Chief Commercial Officer Nathan Hickman noted that this change isn’t about finding new customers, but rather being honest about who they are. We’re not trying to be all things to all people,” Hickman admitted, explaining that the shift helps manage the expectations of families who might be looking for more robust youth programming.
This strategic move also helps separate Oceania from its sister brand, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, which will continue to welcome younger travelers. By joining the ranks of “no-kids” pioneers like Virgin Voyages and Viking, Oceania is positioning itself as the ultimate getaway for those who want their morning coffee without the sound of splashing or shouting in the background.
The “adults-only” movement is clearly gaining steam across the entire industry.
