Offset Faces Possible $100K Default Judgment In Casino Lawsuit, Judge Says He Never Answered The Case

Offset’s $100,000 fight with Detroit’s MotorCity Casino Hotel is moving into a more serious stage after a Michigan judge ordered the casino to begin default proceedings against the rapper.

⚖️ICYMI⚖️A Michigan judge has ordered MotorCity Casino Hotel to move forward with DEFAULT proceedings against Offset in its pending lawsuit.

According to the September 11 scheduling order, Cephus was SERVED, His deadline to file an answer EXPIRED and No answer had been filed.

Judge Qiana Denise Lillard therefore ordered that a DEFAULT be filed and served, and that a motion seeking entry of a DEFAULT JUDGMENT be filed and heard no later than OCTOBER 23, 2026

According to a September 11 scheduling order in the case, Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Qiana Denise Lillard found that Offset, whose legal name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, had been served with the lawsuit and that his deadline to file an answer had expired. The order states that no answer had been filed.

Lillard consequently directed that a default be filed and served against Cephus. MotorCity must then file a motion seeking entry of a default judgment and have that motion heard no later than October 23, 2026.

That does not mean MotorCity has already won a $100,000 judgment. However, the development puts Offset in a much more vulnerable position because the lawsuit could move forward without him having formally contested the casino’s allegations.

Under Michigan Court Rule 2.603, a default can be entered when a defendant fails to plead or otherwise defend against a lawsuit. Once default is entered, the defendant generally cannot continue participating in the case unless the court sets the default aside. A plaintiff can then ask the court to enter a default judgment, which can turn the allegations into an enforceable civil judgment.

MotorCity’s case dates back to March 30, 2026, when the Detroit casino sued Offset over an alleged unpaid $100,000 gambling credit line. The casino claims the rapper opened the line of credit in March 2024 so he could continue gambling during a visit.

According to the lawsuit, MotorCity later attempted to contact Offset about repayment but was allegedly unable to reach him. The casino claims its agreement with Offset allowed it to withdraw the outstanding balance directly from his bank account. When MotorCity attempted to collect the money that way, the transaction allegedly failed because the account did not contain enough funds to cover the debt.

MotorCity sued for breach of contract, fraud, and related claims. When news of the case first broke in April, a representative for Offset told TMZ, “We are working toward a resolution.”

Six months later, the September scheduling order suggests that whatever discussions may have taken place did not result in Offset filing a formal response before his deadline.

Michigan rules still provide a process for challenging a default. A party seeking to have one set aside generally must show good cause for failing to respond and provide facts demonstrating a potentially valid defense. When a defendant was personally served, Michigan rules also impose deadlines for seeking relief once a default judgment has been entered.

The court development arrives as Offset’s gambling continues to attract attention.

On October 5, footage surfaced showing him arguing with employees during a high-stakes blackjack session at a casino on Paris’ Champs Élysées. Offset could be heard saying he was wagering between $10,000 and $20,000 per hand and claimed he had beaten the casino out of approximately $200,000. The dispute centered on other gamblers allegedly being allowed to play in a position Offset considered his spot at the table.

Offset has also faced separate, unproven accusations involving gambling money. Rapper Lil Tjay previously claimed Offset owed him $10,000, while former NFL star Dez Bryant publicly alleged Offset owed him $8,000 following gambling between the two. Neither allegation should be confused with the MotorCity lawsuit, which is an actual pending civil case.

For MotorCity, the next major deadline is now October 23. If the casino files its required motion and Judge Lillard grants a default judgment, the dispute could move from an unresolved $100,000 claim to a court judgment that MotorCity can pursue for collection.

Until then, Offset still has not been found liable for the casino’s allegations. But after months of silence on the court docket, the judge is no longer allowing the lawsuit to simply sit.
