Hold Up Before You Grab That Outshine Bar: Possible Glass Sparks Recall And It’s Not The Brand’s First

A popular freezer staple is being pulled from stores nationwide after consumers reported finding glass in some Outshine Fruit Bars. According to Dreyer’s updated August 18 recall notice, the company is voluntarily recalling select products “due to possible foreign material contamination with glass.” Dreyer’s described the affected products as a “limited number” of Outshine Fruit Bars and said the action followed consumer reports of glass being found in the product.

The Outshine recall includes Strawberry, Watermelon, Grape, Tangerine and Black Cherry fruit bars sold in six-count packages containing 2.5-ounce bars. The newest company notice also includes Outshine 24-count Variety Pack Fruit Bars. Dreyer’s said the affected lots were distributed to retailers nationwide and that no other Outshine products or varieties are part of the recall.

Consumers should check the bottom of their boxes because the affected batch codes and best before dates vary by flavor. According to the company’s recall notice, the recalled Strawberry boxes carry UPC 041548610047, Grape carries UPC 041548244044, Watermelon carries UPC 041548413624, Black Cherry carries UPC 041548000121, and Tangerine carries UPC 041548612041. The company’s notice contains the full list of affected batch codes and dates.

Dreyer’s said, “No illnesses or injuries have been reported to date.” Anyone who purchased a product covered by the Outshine recall is being instructed to dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. The company also advised anyone concerned about a possible injury to contact a health care provider.

“The safety, quality, and integrity of our products remain our highest priority. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this action may cause our consumers and retail customers,” the company said in its statement. “We remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of food safety and quality and to earning the trust of our consumers and customers every day.”

The Outshine recall is not the only recent case involving frozen desserts and possible foreign material. In May 2026, an FDA-posted recall from Straus Family Creamery covered specific production runs of several organic ice cream flavors because of the possible presence of metal fragments. The affected products included Vanilla Bean, Strawberry, Cookie Dough, Dutch Chocolate, and Mint Chip ice cream in certain pint or quart sizes. Straus reported no injuries at the time of its announcement.

Foreign material also triggered a frozen dessert recall in December 2025. According to an FDA-posted announcement from Danone U.S., So Delicious Dairy Free Salted Caramel Cluster Frozen Dessert pints were recalled nationwide because cashew inclusions could contain small stones or other hard objects. The FDA page now notes that the recall has been completed and terminated.

Other frozen dessert recalls have involved allergens instead of physical objects. In November 2025, the FDA posted Jeni’s recall announcement for one batch of Passion Fruit Dreamsicle Ice Cream Bars that could contain undeclared wheat and soy. Jeni’s said a crunch topping from another product was accidentally introduced during manufacturing. No illnesses or injuries had been reported when the recall was announced.

Outshine itself has faced a separate recall before. In July 2023, the FDA posted that Dreyer’s announcement covered certain Outshine No Sugar Added Strawberry Fruit Bars because they could contain undeclared milk. That recall involved specific six-count packages and was unrelated to the glass concern behind the current Outshine recall.

For shoppers with Outshine bars sitting in the freezer, the flavor alone is not enough to determine whether a box is affected. Dreyer’s says consumers should compare the batch information printed on the package with the current recall notice and either discard qualifying products or return them for a refund.
