Waffle House Said Waffles Ain’t Enough, Tacos Are Hitting The Griddle In Atlanta

Waffle House is putting tacos on the griddle, giving Atlanta diners a new way to order some very familiar breakfast and melt flavors. According to CBS News Atlanta, the restaurant chain is testing Waffle House tacos at about 45 locations across the Atlanta metro area for a limited time.

The test includes seven varieties, and Waffle House is not making customers choose between breakfast and lunch hours. The four breakfast options include bacon, egg and cheese; sausage, egg and cheese; chicken sausage, egg and cheese; and ham, egg and cheese. The lunch and dinner side of the menu includes patty melt, chicken melt, and cheesesteak melt tacos. The company said every taco can be ordered at any time of day.

So yes, somebody can walk into Waffle House late at night and order breakfast tacos, or start the morning with a patty melt taco if that is where the spirit leads.

Waffle House has not announced whether the taco experiment will move beyond the Atlanta area or eventually reach restaurants nationwide. Still, the first week appears to have given the company something to work with. Waffle House said, “It has only been a week, but the early feedback has been positive.” CBS News Atlanta separately reported the same early response from a company spokesperson.

The participating Waffle House taco locations stretch across a sizable portion of metro Atlanta and its surrounding communities. According to the company information published by CBS News Atlanta, the test reaches restaurants in areas including Alpharetta, Atlanta, Buford, Duluth, Johns Creek, Lawrenceville, Lilburn, Marietta, Norcross, Roswell, Sandy Springs, Suwanee and Tucker, among other Georgia communities.

Tacos may sound like a major curveball for a restaurant built around waffles, eggs, hash browns, and diner classics, but Atlanta customers have seen Waffle House experiment before.

In late 2023, select Metro Atlanta restaurants began testing chicken sausage as an alternative to the chain’s traditional breakfast meats. By July 2024, Waffle House headquarters told the outlet that the chicken sausage test had expanded to every Waffle House location in Georgia. That rollout made chicken sausage one of the clearest recent examples of the company starting small before widening a menu experiment.

Waffle House tried another Atlanta-centered experiment in summer 2025, this time outside the breakfast plate. A company spokesperson told Southern Living that Waffle House was testing canned Cold Brew at nine dine-in locations near Atlanta, while four additional locations offered the drink through DoorDash. The ready-made coffee was a sweet cream blend, showing that the company was also willing to test beverages outside its traditional hot coffee routine.

The chain has been more adventurous with limited-time waffles too. Southern Living reported that Waffle House launched a Strawberry Shortcake Waffle nationwide for a limited run in spring 2025, after offering S’mores and Strawberry Waffles in 2024 and a Pumpkin Spice Waffle in 2023. Later in 2025, participating restaurants added a seasonal Cinnamon Crunch Waffle with cinnamon nougat, cinnamon sprinkles, and whipped cream.

That history makes the new Waffle House tacos test less random than it first sounds. Atlanta has repeatedly served as a place where the chain can experiment without immediately changing the identity of a menu customers already know. Chicken sausage expanded after its initial local test, cold brew got a limited Atlanta run, and seasonal waffles have allowed Waffle House to play with flavors without permanently rebuilding the menu.

The tacos follow a similar formula. Rather than abandoning what Waffle House already does, the company is putting recognizable combinations into a different format. Bacon, sausage, ham, eggs, cheese, chicken, and melt-inspired flavors are already familiar territory for the chain, while the tortilla gives customers something new to talk about.

Whether Waffle House tacos become the next wider menu addition will depend on what happens after the Atlanta test. For now, customers at roughly 45 Georgia restaurants get to decide whether the House known for waffles has room for tacos too.
