Steve Harvey is making it clear that he never wanted to be too close to Sean “Diddy” Combs, and now fans are revisiting the complicated history between the two men after Harvey’s latest comments went viral.

During a recent appearance on the “One on One with Kris Fade” podcast, Harvey used Diddy’s legal downfall as an example while speaking directly to young men about character, accountability, and how a man should treat women. The comedian did not hold back while discussing the now-infamous 2016 hotel surveillance footage involving Cassie Ventura.
“He’s in prison right now,” Harvey said. “He was old enough to really get it together, but he didn’t.”
Harvey continued by stressing that fame and money cannot protect someone forever if their behavior is abusive behind closed doors.
“You have to practice acts of kindness. You’ve got to be a gentleman through it all,” Harvey explained. “But you don’t have to be abusive with it and abrasive with it.”
The conversation immediately sparked renewed attention around Harvey’s past connection to Diddy through his daughter Lori Harvey. Back in 2019, Lori and Diddy fueled dating rumors after they were photographed together multiple times, including vacations in Italy alongside Steve and Marjorie Harvey. At the time, E! News reported that the pair had “a fun fling,” though the relationship reportedly ended after only a few months.
Years later, Lori denied rumors suggesting she dated both Diddy and his son Justin Combs, calling the speculation “absolutely not true” during an interview with E! News in 2023.
Still, Steve Harvey now says there were always things about Diddy that made him cautious.
“I knew him, but it was some things that I had heard about that kept me away from him,” Harvey said on the podcast. “I got invited. ‘Hey man, we throwing a party.’ ‘Nah.’ You don’t see me nowhere. I don’t go to the white party, the blue party, the pink party, the panty party.”
Harvey also admitted the Cassie footage changed how many people viewed Diddy publicly.
“When that video came out … you sitting going, ‘Wait a minute. Hold on, man. What you doing?’” he said.
Diddy is currently serving a 50-month federal sentence after being convicted on Mann Act related charges connected to prostitution transportation offenses.
