Peter Thomas Says Cynthia Bailey Backed Out Of Deal To Buy His Home Right Before He Went To Prison

Peter Thomas says a last minute reversal by Cynthia Bailey changed how he viewed their relationship years after their marriage ended.

During an appearance on Carlos King’s “Reality with the King,” Thomas revisited a financial dispute involving a Buckhead townhouse that he says he was trying to protect before reporting to federal prison. Thomas said he asked Bailey to purchase the property through her company so he could preserve the equity while he was away.

According to Thomas, the townhouse had approximately $350,000 in equity. He said Bailey initially agreed to the arrangement, and he brought his banker and a mutual friend into the process to help move the transaction toward closing.

Peter Thomas said everything changed nine days before the scheduled closing.

According to Thomas, Bailey texted him and said she felt “pressured” and “bullied” by the situation. He described the message as a sudden reversal after believing the two had already reached an understanding. He ultimately lost the property.

Thomas said the timing made the situation even more painful. He alleged that on the same day Bailey backed away from the deal, U.S. marshals arrived at his home and gave him approximately 15 minutes to leave. That portion of his story comes from his podcast remarks and has not been independently confirmed through public records reviewed by Baller Alert.

For Peter Thomas, the dispute was about more than real estate. He told King that he believed he and Bailey were still friends despite their divorce. Thomas said, “I thought we were good.”

He also argued that his own actions during their divorce showed the kind of loyalty he expected in return. Thomas claimed his divorce attorney told him he could pursue part of Bailey’s earnings at the time, but he says he chose not to ask her for money. That claim has not been independently verified through their divorce filings.

Bailey and Thomas officially ended their marriage years before the townhouse dispute. Their divorce was finalized in March 2017 after their marriage and separation played out publicly on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.”

Their financial history has remained part of the conversation long after the marriage ended. In April 2026, Bailey discussed financial struggles she experienced during her marriage to Thomas. She recalled adjusting her spending while filming “RHOA” during periods when money was tight.

Peter Thomas now appears to view the townhouse dispute as another chapter in that complicated financial history.

His prison sentence stemmed from a separate federal tax case. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Thomas pleaded guilty in July 2024 to failing to account for and pay over trust fund taxes connected to PT Media. Federal prosecutors said businesses controlled by Thomas failed to pay more than $2.5 million in employment taxes between 2017 and 2023, including more than $1.7 million collected from employee wages.

The Justice Department announced on December 19, 2024, that Thomas had been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison, followed by two years of supervised release, and ordered to pay approximately $2.53 million in restitution to the IRS. It was later reported that he surrendered on August 1, 2025.

That timeline matters because the townhouse dispute happened before Peter Thomas reported to prison, not before he was sentenced.

The larger issue now is whether Bailey owed him any obligation after their marriage was already over. Thomas appears to believe that because he did not pursue her financially during their divorce, she should have shown him similar consideration when he needed help protecting his property.

Bailey, based on Thomas’s own account of her message, appears to have reached a point where she no longer felt comfortable participating in the transaction. Agreeing to become financially involved with a former spouse is not a small decision, even if the relationship remains friendly.

Peter Thomas sees the situation as a moment when someone he trusted failed to support him. Others may see Bailey’s decision as a former spouse setting a financial boundary she had every right to set.

Was Cynthia wrong for backing out after initially agreeing, or was she justified once she felt “pressured” and “bullied”?
