Sheneka Adams is writing a book, and she wants everybody to know it won’t be a tell all.
The model sat down with Baller Alert to clear up the rumors. She has been compared to Karrine “Superhead” Steffans more than once, and she says that isn’t the book she’s writing. “I’m not trying to slander anyone’s name. I’m not trying to be a Superhead,” she said. “I feel like whatever you do behind closed doors with someone is between you and them.”
Her book is meant for young women. She wants to share what her life in the industry has really been like, and she’s taking her time to get it right. It’s due out next year.
Like a lot of models, Sheneka Adams got her start online. A photographer reached out to her on a site similar to Myspace, she did the shoot, and the calls started coming in from there.
Her inspiration is Beyoncé. Sheneka says she loves that Beyoncé is just Beyoncé offstage but becomes Sasha Fierce the second she steps on it. Sheneka has her own version. “When I’m just chilling with my friends I’m Sheneka Adams, but when I’m doing photo shoots, videos, interviews, I’m GiGi, my alter ego,” she laughed.
Off the clock, she’s all Ugg boots, shorts and a ponytail, with no makeup. She calls herself goofy and outgoing, and says that’s how her friends and family would describe her too.
Staying camera ready takes work. She trains five days a week when she’s in town, jogs a lot and puts in hundreds of crunches, because she shows her stomach often. Her biggest rule is portions. She says people who skip meals thinking they’ll stay slim usually end up gaining weight instead.
Her King Magazine shoot is one of the most professional she has ever done. “It was hot and sexy, everybody was nice, having a good time,” she said. The cover hits newsstands later this year.
She also hosts a lot of parties and events and loves it just as much as modeling, because it lets fans see her personality instead of just a photo. As for being compared to other models and vixens, she doesn’t mind it, but she sees herself differently. She’s also a blogger and a writer, and she’s focused on building a brand. “You can’t be a model forever realistically,” she said, “because there is always going to be a younger, fresher face.”
In a man, she wants conversation first. “I need someone that can make me laugh, cry, smile, all the above,” she said. Looks alone won’t do it. Money isn’t the deciding factor either, but she wants a man with a foundation. “Someone who has it together, just like men like women that have it together.”
Her biggest advice for girls who want to follow in her footsteps is to study the business, because a lot of people out there are selling dreams. Men will approach new girls and tell them they have to pay for photo shoots, or pay someone to be their manager. “You never pay anyone to be your manager,” she said. “Your manager gets paid when you do.” If you don’t know something, she says, find someone who has been in the industry and ask.
When she isn’t working, Sheneka Adams likes to eat, hang out with friends and family, and keep up her blog, Vixen Gossip. Look for her King Magazine cover later this year and her book next year.
