Andrew Tate says he is being held next to a cannibal in a Miami federal detention facility, according to a post that went up on his X account Thursday morning. The post describes his conditions in the SHU, which he called the highest level of security that exists, and lists what he says he does not have: commissary, visits, or contact with the outside world. Then comes the detail that has spread across the internet all day. His neighbor, he says, is a cannibal who screams throughout the night.
The problem with the post is the post. A man claiming no contact with the outside world published that claim to millions of followers on a social platform, and the contradiction was noticed within minutes. It is also almost certainly not Tate typing. During his detention in Romania in 2023, his account stayed active the entire time while reporting established he had no phone access and was relaying messages through his team. The same arrangement appears to be running now, which means the description of his cell is coming to us through at least one intermediary before it reaches the timeline.
Tate and his brother Tristan were arrested Saturday, July 18, in Miami by U.S. Marshals on a sealed warrant, taken into custody outside the James L. Knight Center where Andrew had been scheduled to co-host a bare knuckle boxing event. British prosecutors announced the same day that they were seeking extradition on charges alleging the brothers raped and trafficked women between 2010 and 2017. They appeared in federal court Monday in tan jail uniforms and handcuffs before U.S. Magistrate Lauren Louis, who set the next hearing for July 27.
The conditions claim has been building through their attorney all week before Tate’s own account picked it up. Joseph McBride posted that the brothers are being kept in a five by twelve cell and described them as being dressed in orange jumpsuits, comparing the treatment to Al Qaeda detainees at Guantanamo Bay. He called solitary confinement torture and said he is working to get them out of it. He has also called the brothers political prisoners, arguing the arrest came days after they visited the U.S. Capitol to hold meetings about their UK party and the coming elections.
None of the conditions descriptions have been confirmed by the Bureau of Prisons, and some of the details do not line up cleanly. Prison records place the brothers at a federal facility in Miami that TMZ has reported is low security, which sits awkwardly beside a claim of being in the highest security housing that exists. The brothers wore tan in court, not orange. The Miami New Times noted that McBride’s solitary confinement announcement was accompanied by what appears to be an AI generated image of the two men sitting in a cell together, which is a strange choice for a claim about being held in isolation.
The legal reality behind the detention is less dramatic than the political prisoner framing suggests. Because this is an extradition proceeding rather than a domestic criminal case, bail is not an available option at all. McBride has acknowledged as much. That is not a punishment aimed at Tate specifically. It is how extradition custody works, and it applies to anyone in the same posture.
What sits underneath all of this is the reason there is a warrant in the first place. Federal filings released Monday night detail complaints made by women to British officials describing sexual and physical abuse, including allegations that they were choked to the point of losing consciousness and raped. The current UK charges involve multiple alleged victims across a span of years, and the Tates face separate criminal proceedings in Romania that have been ongoing since December 2022, plus civil litigation in Florida and Britain. The brothers deny all of it and have said any sexual activity was consensual. Their lawyer has called the newest charges filth and slander.
The gap between those filings and a post about a screaming neighbor is the whole story. Tate spent years building an audience of young men on the premise that complaint is weakness, that discomfort is what separates the men who matter from everyone else, that suffering is a thing you absorb without flinching. The empire ran on that idea. It sold courses on it. And the first message out of federal custody is about the food, the isolation, and the man in the next cell.
Whether the cannibal detail is literally accurate is unverifiable from the outside. Federal detention facilities house people awaiting trial and serving sentences on every kind of charge, and someone with a violent psychiatric history could plausibly be nearby. There is no way to confirm it, and the person making the claim has an obvious interest in the image it creates. What is verifiable is that the claim traveled, which was the point. A U.S. district judge will decide in the coming weeks whether the extradition request meets the legal requirements. If it does, the final call goes to Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
