Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz Talk Being Each Other’s Cheerleader in First-Ever Joint Television Interview

When you think of a power couple, it’s absolutely impossible to not think of Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz. The two are both illustrious creatives, with over twenty years in the music business, noteworthy careers, and many great achievements to show for it.

On Thursday, prior to receiving The Recording Academy’s ‘Producers & Engineers Wing Award’ for their “paramount” contributions to the industry, the pair sat down with ‘CBS This Morning’ co-host Gayle King for their first-ever joint television interview.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

During the sit-down, the couple touched on all things music, being each other’s cheerleader– sometimes, critic, and how they’ve been able to shine… collectively.

“It’s very hard for me to find something that [Alicia] can’t do great,” Swizz admits, looking over at Alicia. “I tell her the truth.”

But, according to Alicia, the truth is an understatement. Swizz is constantly pushing her to do great, and if that means being “brutally honest”, he will.

“He’s brutally honest! [laughs] I’m like, ‘Bae, could you like be a little sweeter with the way you gave that to me?’” Alicia says.

However, at the end of the day, it’s their unassailable dedication to the craft and unparalleled love for each other that keeps their musical partnership balanced.

In fact, throughout the eight years that they’ve been together, a competition of any kind has never played a factor in their relationship.

“One of the things that really works about us is that we’re very different. Even his style of music is different from my style of music,” Alicia explains. “We complement each other, as opposed to ever in each other’s way or should there ever feel any competition. We don’t work like that.”

It goes without question that, individually, they are each very well-accomplished. But together, the lovebirds make magic, which is why we’ve grown to admire them so much.

“That’s an unhealthy vibe for any couple. A lot of men are scared of powerful women. I know she’s powerful. I love it,” Swizz adds.
