Andrew and Tristan Tate, the controversial social media personalities facing human trafficking charges in Romania, have officially left the country and have reportedly landed in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, after authorities lifted their travel restrictions. But new reports suggest this decision may have been influenced by multiple attempts from Donald Trump’s administration to pressure Romania into allowing them to leave.
The Tates were first arrested in late 2022 and formally indicted in 2023 on accusations of running a criminal operation that allegedly lured women to Romania, where they were sexually exploited. Andrew Tate was also charged with rape. Both brothers have consistently denied the charges, calling the case a politically motivated attack.
On Thursday, Romania’s anti-organized crime agency, DIICOT, announced that prosecutors had approved a request to lift the Tates’ travel restrictions, though they did not specify who made the request.
According to reports, the Trump administration made multiple attempts to persuade Romanian authorities to ease the restrictions on the Tates. While no official confirmation has been given, this development raises questions about whether political influence played a role in the brothers’ newfound freedom to travel.
Alongside their ability to leave Romania, the Tates also won a financial battle. A Romanian court ruled in favor of their appeal to unfreeze multiple seized assets, including six luxury vehicles, land and properties, company shares, and all previously frozen bank accounts. Their spokesperson, Mateea Petrescu, confirmed the decision.
Although the Tates are now free to travel, their legal troubles in Romania are far from over. The case remains open, and a separate investigation is still unfolding. However, their departure and the reported involvement of Trump’s team have only added to the controversy surrounding their case.
Now that they’re in the U.S., reportedly landing in Fort Lauderdale Florida, will they return to Romania if required?
