Photos of Ariana Grande have sparked comments from fans and critics concerned about her health.
The pop star spoke out in a rare, personal social media post following the comments about her appearance from late last week when paparazzi spotted her attending Jeff Goldblum’s concert in London.
“I pray Ariana Grande isn’t battling anorexia or bulimia. She doesn’t look well. Her old weight was gorgeous & healthy!” one Twitter user wrote.
Grande addressed the critics and concerned fans. On Tuesday, she spoke out about people who judge others’ appearance.
“I just wanted to address your concerns about my body and talk a little bit about what it means to be a person with a body, and to be seen and to be paid such close attention to,” she said, adding how we could all stand to be “gentler and less comfortable” when it comes to speaking out about someone else‘s body, no matter the intention behind it. “If you think you’re saying something good or well-intentioned, whatever it is: healthy, unhealthy, big, small, this, that, sexy, nonsexy…we should really work towards not doing that as much,” she added.
“The body that you’ve been comparing my current body to was the unhealthiest version of my body. I was on a lot of antidepressants, and drinking on them, and eating poorly, and at the lowest point of my life when I looked the way you consider my healthy, but that, in fact, wasn’t my healthy.”
Grande went on to say she doesn’t have to explain anything when it comes to her life but hopes that offering a little “vulnerability” will bring about a positive change.
“By the way, I’m not wearing eyelashes or eyeliner right now. This is my face,” she later said, calling the issue out one last time. “These are my eyes, so don’t freak out about that now, too, please.”
“No matter what you’re going through. No matter what weight. No matter how you like to do your makeup these days. No matter what cosmetic procedures you’ve had or not or anything,” she elaborated. “Yeah, I just think you’re beautiful and wanted to share some feelings.”
Many responded in support of the singer.
“I’m so sorry you had to make this video🥺🥺💗,” one wrote.
“Ur so sweet🥺 I’m so sorry this has been a constant issue,” said another.
“Moral of the story is don’t speak on someone else’s body, period, whether you’re concerned or not,” a third affirmed.
