Hip-hop star A$AP Rocky will be releasing a documentary about his 2019 stint in a Swedish jail.
“Stockholm Syndrome” will take viewers through 105 minutes of interviews, animation, and live concert scenes that will tell the story of how he ended up spending a month incarcerated inside of the “shockingly inhumane” jail. Debuting at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival as part of its Juneteenth lineup, the doc will feature cameos from A$AP Ferg, Naomi Campbell, Kim Kardashian, Tyler, the Creator, and Michèle Lamy.
“The film reveals Rocky’s experience with the inequities of the Swedish judicial system and the dangers of stardom and scapegoating through a series of twists and turns, ultimately paralleling the need for prison reform in our own backyard,” said Loren Hammonds, Tribeca’s Senior Programmer Film & Immersive.
Rocky’s battle with the Swedish justice system drew national attention and attracted the attention of former U.S. President Donald Trump, who had a hand in getting the rapper home.
The “Goldie” rapper awaited trial in the Swedish detention center following a fight in Stockholm in June 2019. He was found guilty by a Swedish court in August 2019 but was granted a suspended sentence.
Stockholm Syndrome will debut at the festival on Sunday, June 13th.
