In the wake of last week’s Astroworld tragedy, attorneys Ben Crump and Alex Hillard announced that more than 200 of the festival’s attendees have filed lawsuits.
Travis Scott, Live Nation, and other event promoters and organizers are named as defendants in the suit. The lawsuit alleges that the victims experienced physical and mental injuries at the festival that left nine people dead and hundreds of more attendees hurt.Â
“Nobody should ever die from going to a concert, so this lawsuit is not justice about getting justice for them, but it’s about making sure that the promoters and the organizers know that you can not allow this to ever happen in the future,” said Crump during a press conference on Friday.
Crump said his office is representing 93 new victims in the lawsuits filed on Friday. He expects more will be forthcoming and has created a website for victims to file claims. Hillard said that one suit has 90 plaintiffs and also names Drake as a defendant.
At the news conference, attendees spoke about their harrowing experience during the crowd surge at NRG Park.Â
“There’s people on the ground trying to use me to pull themselves up, and I just remember thinking, ‘If I fall, it’s over,'” Dishon Issac said, describing it as a “warzone.”
The tragedy is still being actively investigated by the FBI, Houston Police Department, and the Houston Fire Department. Scott said last week that he would fully cooperate, and a Live Nation spokesperson said the company is also cooperating with investigators.Â
These stories are heartbreaking! Astroworld Fest attendees unknowingly bought their death tickets, and many of the other concertgoers left traumatized. This tragedy could have been prevented with proper safety precautions… ALL involved should be held accountable!! pic.twitter.com/pBdIEVNgvf
