The audio of Julissia Batties begging her grandmother not to send her with her mother has been obtained by the New York Post.
The heartbreaking story of Batties’ death is hard to hear, and the recent audio makes it even worse. The 7-year-old girl is heard saying, “Grandma, call the police!”
“I don’t want to go with mommy,” Julissia repeatedly begged and cried hysterically to her grandmother, Yolanda Davis, who was also her foster parent. The child didn’t want to go to a court-ordered weekend visit with her mom, Navasia Jones.
Another recording captured the girl saying, “Help me out,” when asked what police could do.
Her pleas went unheard, Julissia was sent with her mother, who had lost custody of the girl at birth, along with four sons because of alleged negligence and physical abuse, the New York Post reported.
The young girl’s grandmother and court-appointed lawyer objected. Still, the city Administration for Children’s Services last June 21 let Julissia return to live with her mother, without supervision, for the first time.
Less than two months later, on Aug. 10, she was dead.
The mother said the child fell and hit her head on a desk.
However, her eldest son, 17, told cops he had punched Julissia eight times in the face, but officials decided those blows did not kill her.
Hours later, she started throwing up and passed out. Her mom called 911, and she was rushed to the hospital with brutal injuries.
She could not be saved.
The ME ruled her death a homicide. Close to nine months later, the NYPD has still made no arrest. “The investigation is ongoing,” a spokesperson said Friday.
