Tis the season to give back to those in need. On Friday, November 15, 2014, NFL legend Shawne Merriman will host his 12th annual “Lights On Foundation” Coat Drive at Capitol One Field ( 2740 Comcast Center, College Park, MD 20742) at Byrd Stadium. The Coat Drive will take place prior to the upcoming Maryland vs. Michigan State game. The coats and cold weather items collected during this drive will go to individuals in need during the harsh winter months. Donations of any new or gently used coats will be collected prior to the game.

About Annual Shawne Merriman “Lights On Foundation” Coat Drive:

Shawne Merriman and The Lights On Foundation has partnered with the Maryland Athletics Department and University Relations for the past 12 years to collect gently-used coats, hats, scarves and other cold weather clothing for those in need during the winter months. Every winter thousands of local community members do not have adequate winter wear and Shawne feels that nobody should go without a coat in the harsh winter months. Through the Coat Drive, the Lights On Foundation has collected more than 20,000 coats and warm weather items for the homeless individuals in the Maryland and Washington D.C. communities. This year we are hoping to continue the tradition of raising thousands of garments so that community members can have a warm winter.
