A Beyoncé fan who captured the hearts of many during BeyChella has sadly passed away.
Sydney Hardeman, who went viral for her stunned expression during Beyoncé’s 2018 Coachella performance, has died at the age of 25. Her mother, Jamie Hardeman, confirmed to TMZ that Sydney died by suicide on November 8.
The Dallas, Texas native had recently gotten engaged and was set to marry in April 2026. According to her family, Sydney experienced a noticeable shift in her mood following the death of her grandfather. They attempted to get her into counseling, but she reportedly canceled her appointments.
In the wake of her passing, loved ones have launched a GoFundMe campaign to celebrate her life and fund causes she cared about. “Our dearest friend and loved family member, Sydney Hardeman, passed away unexpectedly, leaving all of us heartbroken,” wrote Dakota Jenkins, the fundraiser’s organizer. Jenkins described her as “confident, hilarious, endlessly kind, and full of life.”
Sydney went viral when her jaw-dropping reaction to Beyoncé’s Coachella set was featured in the Netflix documentary “Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé.” Speaking with Buzzfeed News in 2019, Sydney recalled being a Beyoncé fan since age 13. “I was expecting to see myself because I remember the cameraman being in my face the whole time, but I was so happy to be shown because it means Beyoncé knows my face exists,” she said.
Proceeds from the GoFundMe will go toward minority scholarships and suicide prevention efforts. Over $13,000 has already been raised.
